Review of Smasher

Review of Smasher by Chase S.

Scott Bly takes us to see the future in Smasher. Smasher is a third person Sci-fi book that takes place in LAanges, 2042 not only is this the most futuristic place ever but the weirdest name ever, I mean try to pronounce it, I bet you got it wrong. Anyways the story begins in 1542, 500 years before the real setting takes place, A boy name Charles is running away from generic bullies. I say generic because after the first chapter they disappear from the story completely. I’m not joking they’re just there to be there. Where was I? Oh right. So the bullies catch up to him but then a girl shows up and falcon punches the bullies. This is Geneva (2nd main character) and she’s from the future because of course, she is. She’s here to find Charles and terminate hi- oh wait that’s terminator. Anyways she needs his help to save the future because an evil man is going to control the future. Also, remember how I said the setting right now is 1542 how is this kid suppose to help with a problem 500 years ahead of his time? Because he’s good at puzzles…….and he has powers too I think. Geneva takes him to the future. Foxx (The bad guy) has a virus that’s a mix between a computer and biological virus called The Future. “How can this work?” you may ask. Nanomachines (Not really but just pretend it is because this only reason I could think of.) I going to skip ahead a bit to the middle to keep this quick so the main characters find a dog in a cage who also has the same powers as Charles. Charles names it Callaya, I don’t really like the name so I’ll call it Maxwell. So anyway, Charlie, Geneva, and Maxwell are escaping the tower called The TerraThinc building and a robot gorilla named Gargan. They escape and this is label as a terrorist attack. Just imagine if there was camera footage of them on the news.

{Breaking News} Two 12-year-olds commit terrorist crime at TerraThinc building more at 7:00. Other news it’s been 20 years and we still don’t know who Spider-Man is.

Maxwell increases Charlie’s power level to The hum (Magic)

Charlie and Geneva decided to go back to steal the plans for the future. Long story short, It fails and Geneva is captured. Then, Charlie runs away and time travels to his time. That’s as far as I can go before going to spoiler territory. Overall it’s okay I feel like the bad guy should be more than a generic evil businessman but that’s all the major besides a few nick picks

The main character is Charles, a kid with magic powers and puzzle skills. The thing that makes Charles believable is that he doesn’t want to be involved with anything that’s going on. “But Chase, wouldn’t make that make the main character seem like a coward” you may ask, and well yeah it’s cowardly to not be any of this but would you follow a robot girl from the future who needs your help to save the future from a evil businessman who is trying to take over the world? No, you wouldn’t. Also, don’t say that you would because I have my lying detector on hand and I know you’re. Charles is both cowardly and caring, Cowardly because he doesn’t want to be part of saving the world and Caring because he saves the puppy and doesn’t leave it in the elevator when it’s about to drop. I can’t find any quotes about these traits but shows in his actions.

Charlie learns that you should never trust businessmen at all. The Theme/message of the story is that this when we let technology take control of us and everything else and when one person gets ahold of all the technology that everyone uses, he’ll control everyone and turn the government into a anarchy and the big idea is Charles trying to stop Foxx

Now if I told you this plot without telling you what book it is you probably tell me it’s some generic sci-fi book which I would agree. This book is not part of a series or has a TV or movie made about it, Scott Bly has probably made more books but you find them if you look up Scott Bly books.

I would recommend this to 13 – 15-year-olds who want to get into sci-fi and I would recommend this to any gender.

That is why I give Smasher

5 out of 7 Dragon balls

While not the best sci-fi book by far, it is an introduction to the world of sci-fi.

Review of HUMAN

Review of HUMAN.4 by Xavier G.

Mike Lancaster sets his future novel Human.4 in a town called Millgrove. This novel is written in first person because Kyle is telling the story . Mike write this book in a ironic way because when you try to connect the dots it does not make sense until the end. Short Summary I’m Kyle from the future I still really don’t know what happens but all I know was a huge mistake people try to change us for the better. They just left us for now. I made this record so you know the truth and to make me feel better also not lonely. The main conflict is the other people trying to update the 0.4 group. I like the book because how fun it was to figure out the clues but at the I was wrong.

Kyle is curious. Kyle is relatable by him noticing his surroundings, for example, he notices a difference with his parents. Kyle is also brave and he is open-minded. On page 219 “To be honest, we mostly stay away from the 1.0 altogether. They are the reminders of everything that we aren’t and of everything we have lost.” Kyle can get away from them but since the update they can’t forget he tries the best he can to forget. ”On page 217/218 “NEW RULE NUMBER SEVEN: You live with this the best you can. And now we are done. I have made a record of these events and maybe I feel better for doing it.” Here again, Kyle is trying to forget the 1.0 but instead deals with it. Like he said, “Maybe I feel better by doing this.” Kyle learn is to accept is there and always be there. The big idea is to accept change but not accept everything. Kyle has lost hope he can do is to make a recording so he did. Annette let her mind go whatever and just become one of them she was dumb and not listen to Kyle. Lily is smart and stays with Kyle kiss him too for good luck. The author wants us to know that in real life it is hard to accept death.

This book reminds me of the world how some people try to forget but later on he or she deals with it in life. That how the 0.4 humans do at least. Yes, there is a sequel to this don’t worry it is called 1.4 by Mike. there is no movie. If there was a movie I would not watch it maybe. Haven by Carol is a similar book. I would recommend this book to people who watch the Matrix. Any age and gender. If you like puzzles or etc then you would like this book. I rate this book a 1.0 out of 1.0 because it explains almost everything like how a 0.4 can change into a 1.0, how Kyle can remember so well, and the rules between 0.4 to 1.0 that why I like this book.

UNWIND by Mira W.

UNWIND by Mira W.

Neal Shusterman set his science fiction book “Unwind” all around the US as Connor runs away from home. Along the way, he Risa and Lev. Connor and his friends try not to get caught to get unwind. This book is in the third person because the author tells everything that happens in the story in his view. The tone of this book is confidence because everything the characters have done they need the confidence to speak up for themselves or fight back. Another tone is loneliness because some of the characters don’t want to open up to each other and be alone for a while. When they have the chance to open up. I liked this book because I can relate to the same situations in some way. This book doesn’t get me tired and want to go to sleep. I want to keep reading. There is always something interesting happening or stressful.

The main character is Connor Lassiter. Connor is a boy that ran away from home. He met a girl named Risa and a boy named Lev. Connor gets in fights a lot and doesn’t think first before he does something most of the time. Connor like he doesn’t care or he is always tough and not scared of anything. But deep down he cares about others and is not as strong as he seems. On page 285 Connor says” I heard you play” Connor tells her “You’re amazing’’.He cares about Risa and compliments her on what she does. Page 147 Risa says”She can see Connor curling his right hand into a fist. She knows she is not getting through to him. He’s getting the wrong message.” If he wants a fight he will get one”. That shows that Connor is trying to use physical violence to solve his problems instead of talking to whoever like he should of. Connor learns that violence is not always the answer and you should listen to what others say. Upon finding the contract his parents signed to have him unwound, he decides to run away from home. In his journey to survive, he meets Risa and Lev. Risa is a unwind like Connor. While Lev is a tithe. The author everyone to understand that you have to trust people closest to you no matter what.

I can tell that this book is based on the future because none of this has ever happened before. There is a series of books after Unwind like Unwholly, Unsouled, Unbound, Unstrung. There is a movie called Unwind by Neal Shusterman. Neal’s other books are Scythe, Challenger Deep, Thunder Head, Everlost, Downsiders, Undivided, Everwild, and more. I would recommend this to ages 13-19 and both genders. People who always like conflicts and action in a book this book would be a good choice. I would give this book a 10/10 because I like everything that happened and it interests me a lot.

Will The Other 8 Planets Destroy Earth?!

By, kt.ty

Imagine what would happen if one morning, you woke up and heard of the news that the earth has stopped in its orbit or a planet went out of orbit and destroyed the earth, along with the entire human race. Thankfully, this occurrence is quite impossible. Both the fiction (The Star and There Will Come Soft Rains) and nonfiction stories (What Would Happen if the Earth Stopped In Its Orbit and What if Saturn Paid Us A Very Close Visit) seem to display that it is impossible for another planet to collide with earth. This is because of its immense gravitational pull.

The books, There Will Come Soft Rains and The Star both revolve around humans being wiped out, or should I say almost wiped out. In the story There Will Come Soft Rains, humans die from a nuclear war but the futuristic house that the humans once lived in still operates as if the humans lived there. In the story The Star, one of Neptune’s stars fall into Earth’s orbit and barely misses us. As the star gets closer, panic arises throughout planet earth. In the end, most of Earth’s population dies. However, the few that do survive witness an eclipse implying that the star has passed. Despite the world almost coming to an end, human life goes back to normal with a few slight changes to the planet.

Despite these stories, there are specific non-fictional articles which one can use in disapproval. An example would be in the article What if Saturn Paid us a Very Close Visit. The animation group, Yeti Dynamics, has created an animation displaying what it would look like if Saturn fell into our orbit. However, Saturn’s gravity would create utter havoc on earth, causing the animator to completely forget about the gravity aspect. Don’t forget that its orbit is huge and very circular, so it will never get any closer than about a million kilometers. This article is not the only article in disapproval, as there is another article called What Would Happen If The Earth Stopped In Its Orbit. The article speaks about what would happen if a “giant finger” stopped the Earth in its orbit. If this were to happen, Earth would fall into a perpetual free fall. It would only take 64½ days to fall into the sun, and we wouldn’t even survive the whole 64½ days. Luckily, there is no giant finger to stop our orbit.

From the information that’s been collected, I can come to the conclusion that I am very glad that these ideas are impossible. It’s very nice to know that science has proven that one of my worst fears cannot actually happen. At first, after reading the stories, I was scared of the answer science would give. In the end, however, I can happily call it something merely in my imagination. Despite being a fun topic to think about, I am thankful that these stories have not, and will not become reality.

In conclusion, I can finally say that the made up frights in the short stories There Will Come Soft Rains and The Star are only fake ideas, due to the disapproval of the articles What Would Happen if the Earth Stopped in Its Orbit and What if Saturn Paid Us A Very Close Visit. However, as a reader, would you want the earth to stop in its orbit or a planet to go out of orbit and destroyed the earth, along with the entire human race? While reading a story, the reader always wants the thrill to keep the story from being boring. But would you want a thrill like this to happen in real life?!

2065

50 years, that’s a lot of time. That’s all the way in 2065! Just imagine what the future would look like. Everything would be different. Cars, houses, technological advances even, who knows if books would still exist. Just imagine that life!

Think of the houses, maybe they would just be filled to the brim with technology. One thing I could imagine happening is that there could be some kind of face scanner to have to get in. One other thing that I could really see is really fast food making machines. Something like some kind of super fast microwave because obviously people would be too lazy to make their own food so everything will probably be microwave food. Well I guess you can already kind of see that happening especially with ramen noodles and food like that. Another thing that will probably eventually happen is that books will be replaced. Like I said before people will probably be too lazy for reading so all of our fat selves will be reading e-books and probably audio books.

Another thing to think about is the cars. I think that cars will be completely hands-free. They will be most likely self driving. This will do one of two things. It will either cause fewer accidents or because they have different programs so they may just cause more accidents. Also I think many cars will be either hybrid or fully electric. What this means is that we need to develop some water resistant metal because if it rains or you try to wash your car you will be promptly shocked. Which would be bad… obviously. Also another thing that may be bad is that our atmosphere will be bad. You may think that it would be good because we wouldn’t be burning gas but on the other hand we would be burning a lot of coal unless people actually stick to wind or water power.

One last thing that would be way different is that we would have many… MANY technological advances. The possibilities are endless! One thing that may happen is that people will probably depend on technology. I mean you can already see that starting considering toddlers can’t be happy unless they have their beloved Apple products. Another strange idea I have theorized is that devices will probably become smaller. They will get so big that the public will want smaller devices. Also TVs are probably going to be like a mile long.

So now that you have imagined the future all you have to do is just write down your predictions and sleep for 50 years! Then when you wake up see if you are right and then question your life choices and why you decided to listen to some random 13 year old you know who told you to sleep for 50 years. Please don’t sue me. Enjoy the future ladies and gentleman!

The Science behind Science Fiction

Have you ever wondered if it were possible for the stars we look at in the night sky to destroy our home planet? It has been scientifically shown that it actually is possible for a star to destroy a planet, such as Earth. This natural disaster doesn’t only happen in the stories we read, it could actually happen in real life! Real science could affect our future, and even cause our world to end.

“There Will Come Soft Rains” by Ray Bradbury is a story about a mechanical house that stands alone after the entire city was destroyed by a nuclear bomb. This house is unaware that the people that lived in it are gone. The house is later destroyed when it sets on fire. The house and fire cause a battle between technology and nature. “The Star”, written by H.G. Wells is about a star that is predicted to destroy Neptune and possibly affect Earth, which it does. The star causes natural disaster to occur on Earth, such as floods and cracks in the Earth’s crust that gush lava. After the madness, there are very few survivors, which was considered a miracle by Martian astronomers. The few survivors that remain soon begin to rebuild and repopulate Earth. A question that both stories raised was if it were actually possible for something like a star to destroy Earth.

It is possible for a star to destroy our planet. Although it may not be from a star crashing into Earth, it is possible for a star to explode (which is called a supernova) and affects Earth that way. If a supernova were to be within about 10-40 light years from Earth, we would be affected greatly. Ten light years from Earth would completely destroy our plant and the solar system, while 30-40 light years would destroy Earth’s ozone layer and magnetic field, which still isn’t good news for us. So, scientists have come to the conclusion that 50-100 light years is the safest distance between us and an exploding star.

I think that anything could happen in the future. Whether it is now or in a million years, something is bound to happen to life on Earth. If this natural disaster were to occur, there would be several pros and cons. For example, a pro would be that new life could evolve, creating a fresh start for another species. A con would be that humans would disappear, which would also cause all our advanced technology and ideas to disappear with us.

A star demolishing Earth and mankind isn’t just an event that happens in the fictional stories we read. The stars we look at in the night sky could actually destroy our home planet. If this extraordinary event could happen to us in real life, who knows what other unbelievable events we read in stories could occur as well?
