Review of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Getaway

Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Getaway is a realistic fiction set with a kid and his family taking on and eventful vacation. In the story Greg Heffley’s 1st person view is documented in his diary. His parents decide it was time for a break. They take on a vacation to where they had their honeymoon, in Isla de Corales. During the middle of the book is where he starts to experience events that don’t usually go in his favor. Towards the end of the book he begins to realize the reason for this trip and what he gets out of it. I like this book because it is extremely funny and exciting book. The only thing I did not like about this book is as the book goes along it becomes predictable.

The protagonist (main character) in my story is an interesting boy adolescent boy named Greg Heffley. He is an interesting person because he can never really get on the right end of things. I know this because in the story a couple gets on his plane last second to sit with him on page 40 he says “I couldn’t believe my luck. As soon as we took off I was gonna stretch out across all three seats and get myself a good night’s sleep. But right before the doors closed one more couple got on board, and they had a baby with them.” Also Greg Heffley is a very relatable person to me also being an adolescent boy making mistakes. Lastly, Greg Heffley is a somewhat frightened person i know this because on page 104 Greg Heffley says “This was no ordinary spider though. That this was as big as my hand, When it fell to the floor I climbed up on the sink so I wasn’t on the same level as it. He learns in the end though that not everything is as bad as you think it is going to be. I think this is the theme because on page 204 he says “After the day was over we went down to the beach, and actually we had a lot of fun.”

I would connect this too another book of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck. I would connect these too because in both books, even all of this series. Greg Heffley just never gets anything to go his way. I would recommend this to Male adolescents because Greg Heffley is also a young boy who makes mistakes and trying to find his place in this world just like many others including me on a scale of 1~10 I would rate this book a 8/10 because it is very funny and extremely relatable if you yourself are a young boy like Greg Heffley. I did not give this book a full 10/10 because it becomes more easier to predict the novel the more you read through it. In conclusion Diary of a Wimpy: The Getaway by Jeff Kinney is a great book and I definitely enjoyed it and would heavily recommend it to anyone wanting to enjoy a good book and laugh a little while doing so.

Book Review

Jeff Kinney sets his present-day realistic fiction book diary of a wimpy kid Hard Luck a book based in the united states. Greg Heffley tells the story from a first-person point of view. Jeff Kinney writes Hard Luck in a very direct mood. In the book, it shows how easily friends can leave you. Also having friends is very helpful. At the beginning of the book Rowley ditches Greg for his new girlfriend. In the middle of the book, Greg is having a hard time with school. He also is having Hard luck without Rowley because he would always carry Greg’s books. At the end of the book, Rowley’s girlfriend breaks up with him. Then Greg and Rowley go back to normal. I really like the book.

Greg Heffley is the main character. Greg is a very wimpy/ lonely kid. Greg is a likable kid because he is a pretty nice and funny kid. Greg is lonely because he only really one friend. Greg is also wimpy because he can not even carry all of his books home from school. He said “my body is just not built to carry that weight.” so he uses a roller bag now cause he does not have Rowley to carry his books. Also, this supports the trait of him being lonely Greg’s mom always says “family is forever friends are not.” pg#1. Greg does not have all lot of really close friends and he always feels sad because he lost Rowley to some girl. But Greg’s mom knew how sad he was and told him. “No matter how nice you treat some people, they will turn there back on you the second they get the chance.” Pg#88. After Greg’s mom said that he learned to be grateful for what you have. He also learned you should try to have more than one friend. So if one friend ditches you  have another friend to hang out with. The Theme of the book is Greg is having some really hard luck with school and friends. My second understanding of the theme is that no matter how hard life is at that time treat everybody nice and things will get better for you.

I can make a connection with my life last year was pretty difficult when my grades dropped and I was having a hard time getting them back up. But I learned that you just have to keep trying your best. When you try your best good things come out of it. Like beating the school record for the cross country!! The book Diary of a wimpy kid Hard Luck is part of a big 10 book series. This series is a new york times best seller. The author Jeff Kinney has other huge hit series are to that are similar to this series. I would recommend this book to boys ages 8-13. I would rate this book 5 stars. The book really grabs your attention and pulls you in.

Evan V. Book Review

Let me just say this, I loved Jeff Kinney’s Diary Of A Wimpy Kid! Realistic Fiction books are my favorite because they are super relatable. I think Greg Heffley’s Humorous First Person Novel was definitely enjoyable because of how it reminds me of middle school. Have you ever tried to just get through the school year and be popular at the same time? Well, the reason Greg wrote in his novel is to show you his attempt of exactly that.

Greg Heffley had a friend that he thought was pulling him down and ruining his chances of becoming popular. His name was Rowley Jefferson. They both try their best to get done with the year without any problems but It goes the complete another way. Rowley tried to be funny a lot but sometimes it didn’t work… well, most times. But he made many people laugh just from a few simple words. “Zoo-Wee Mama.” All he said was that and somehow it made him more popular than Greg. Greg didn’t like it and he thinks “I’ll be famous one day but for now I’m stuck with a bunch of morons.” After denying friendships with Rowley, Greg realized that they had to stick together no matter what happens.

I would also like to say that this is a great book for boys from 9 to 14 but anyone can enjoy it. If you liked the first one you can read the other ones in the series. On a scale of one to ten, I rate it an 8.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Long Haul

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

The Long Haul

By: Diego T.

The genre of this book would be a realistic fiction. The setting is in summer and a hotel. This book is in the third person, it would also be friendly. Greg and his family go on a road trip to “bond”, that’s what his mom says. When they go on their trip it gets bad by them getting a flat tire getting and other stuff.

What makes Greg so likable is because he is funny and kind. He is not very intelligent by saying “ we can just put the boat in the garage we don’t have to winterize it”. Also by saying “ I still think when I talk to the tv it talks back to me.” The thing that Gregs learn is that you can always have fun even if everything goes bad.

The connections with this book are there are more books to this one, and there’s a movie to it with many more.I think people 10 up to 17 would like these books. I would recommend it because it’s fun and you can learn a good lesson.

Review of D.O.A.W.K The Third Wheel

Review of Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Third Wheel by Vinton M.

In Jeff Kinney’s realistic fiction novel, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid Third Wheel” is written in a first person perspective and takes place at Greg’s school or his house in a town that’s very similar to the U.S. I could tell it is written in first person perspective because the author uses “I” and “We” so it’s saying its actually the person writing it. This book’s tone is informal and humorous. I can tell this because the author was obviously trying to make the book sound like it was a diary of a 12 year old kid so he uses terms and other things a 12 year old would say and think to give the tone of an informal diary type novel. This book is also humorous because the main character makes sarcastic jokes and thoughts made for the reader to laugh. This story starts off with Greg talking about his newborn little brother and how he changes Greg’s lifestyle and at home life. Then a little later his Uncle moves into Greg’s house and he has to adjust to that. Also at school his best friend gets on the student council. Towards the end of the movie Greg panics as he needs to find a date to the Valentine’s day dance.

The main character is Greg Heffley a 12 year old boy that is in Jr High/Middle School. He has a sarcastic humorous personality. He is relatable and likeable because he is my age and I can understand the things he experiences and thinks. The author makes Greg seem just like an average kid so that also make him very relatable and likeable. Two character traits for Greg would be selfishness and disloyalty. I find that he is selfish because throughout the story everything is about him whether it be that he is mad that his brother is interrupting his television time or if his friend gets the girl or he doesn’t. On page 174 he says “ But humor is kind of MY thing, and I wasn’t about to let Rowley steal my thunder.” So, he was mad that Rowley was doing well with a girl and making jokes and Greg didn’t like that because he’s selfish so he got mad. I also find that Greg is unloyal because in the story he wouldn’t stay loyal to his best friend Rowley. All throughout the story he talks bad about him and kind of makes fun of him and that is not something a loyal person would do. On page 216 he says “And speaking of Rowley and Abigail, I heard that the two of them are a couple now. All I can say is if that’s true, it makes rowley the worst wingman in history” In this quote Greg is talking bad about Rowley instead of being happy for him and that’s not a loyal thing to do. The theme of this book is that growing up isn’t easy and that life is challenging. Throughout the story Greg has to deal with unfortunate events and things that don’t go his way whether it’s Rowley getting the date or his little brother getting the attention. I think Greg learns that it isn’t easy growing up and that he should be more happy for other people instead of only caring about himself and what’s happening in his life.

Diary of a Wimpy kid is a series with the same main character Greg, there is movies on some of the books, those books being, D.O.A.W.K , Dog Days, Rodrick Rules and The Long Haul. The author Jeff Kinney made a lot of other Diary of The Wimpy Kid books but also other books named the Poptropica series. Those books seem to be around the same genre of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I would recommend this book to any boys who are going to school ages 10-13. I give this book a 8/10 rating because the main problem was introduced very late in the story and there wasn’t much depth to the story as a whole, I did like that I could relate to it though so that is why I rate it an 8/10.

Review of DIARY OF A WIMPY KID DOG DAYS BY Thomas L.

Review of DIARY OF A WIMPY KID DOG DAYS BY Thomas L.

DIARY OF WIMPY KID DOG DAYS.

The author is Jeff Kinney who writes the genre: realistic fiction novel.

The setting is summer break. The narrative point of view is first person and tone is friendly. Greg Heffley goes on the town to see what he can do this summer break and go on adventures with his friends. This was good novel to read; it was a little bit funny and little bit corny too .

Greg Heffley is a person that is funny but you don’t see him like that but on his comics are good and really funny. His friend Rowley is his best friend they do everything together and go on trips together. But Rowley’s parents don’t like Greg at all but they deal with him.

This book is in a series it’s as well in a movie too.

In the series there are 12 books . The year of this movie come out 2012. I would recommend this book to 10 age 14 year old and boy or girl. That this book is a really funny book for everyone .I rate this book a five star book because this book is really funny and you can relate and deal with most of the problems that he encounters in summer break before school starts up again.

D.O.A.W.K Hard Luck, Ben H.

The book is called Hard Luck, the author”s name is Jeff Kinney.

The point of this book is that Greg Heffley the main character, is he is going through a tough year not just in school but outside of it. The tone of the book is normal school boy going through normal life changing setting.

The story is about Greg Heffley versing life and all of it challenges and its outcome. And Rowley is finding new friends and is slowly leaving Greg behind? I liked this book because Jeff Kinney has made a whole series about these books and they are all good and the books take place in a real life setting that you can relate to.

Greg Heffley is the main character, Greg is a normal school boy. He is relatable because he is just living a normal boy like any other boy. Like any other person Greg “smells the new shoe smell” one page 65. And Greg has a sense of humor, in the book, because when Greg is at his Gramma’s house he tries to have fun and play with his Gramma’s dog “One night we found out if you sneak up behind him when he’s sleeping and make a raspberry sound with your lips, his ears perk up.” And this on page 110. Greg learns that if life gives a hard time you need to persevere and stay strong. The big idea of this story is how life will throw a curve-ball at you and how you need to stay strong that not all childhood friends will stay forever.

There are more than 4 movies on the book series Diary of Wimpy Kid. I would recommended this book series to a 4th grade audience, boy. If 1-5 I would give a 4 because its not a full blown adventure about something exciting but its a story you can honestly relate to in many different ways.

Review of Diary of a Wimpy Kid

by Race D.

Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Getaway novel is a realistic fiction full of twist and turns. The book is a humorous first-person story. The setting is a resort in a present day island called Isla de Corrales. The family goes on a trip for Christmas and they encounter tropical creatures, theft and many other problems the family and Greg come across.

Greg the main character of the story is a creative, mischievous tween. He likes to acts like an average middle schooler, which is what this book is directed towards. “Once I was settled into the bathroom, I figured there was no reason to go back to my seat. So whenever someone else came along to use it, I just made bathroom noises until they went away.” Shows he acts like an average teen being immature. Another quote is “The second my kid is old enough to cross the street safely and place an order at a fast-food restaurant, he’s gonna be out of the house.” This shows he doesn’t want to deal with how he acts even though he acts that way. Greg learns to live to the fullest to what you have. The big idea is to not be greedy or needy. The theme is to live life to the fullest.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a 12 book series for the moment. There are multiple movies for Diary of a Wimpy Kid called Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dog Days, Long Haul and Rodrick rules. Jeff Kinney has worked with other people to make 2 of the Poptropica books 3 and 4. I would recommend this book to ages 11-13. I would recommend this book to boys because they can relate to the way he acts. Greg’s interest is video games and doing extreme things. I would rate this book 5/5 stars because it is a relatable and enjoyable book.
