Jeff Kinney sets his present-day realistic fiction book diary of a wimpy kid Hard Luck a book based in the united states. Greg Heffley tells the story from a first-person point of view. Jeff Kinney writes Hard Luck in a very direct mood. In the book, it shows how easily friends can leave you. Also having friends is very helpful. At the beginning of the book Rowley ditches Greg for his new girlfriend. In the middle of the book, Greg is having a hard time with school. He also is having Hard luck without Rowley because he would always carry Greg’s books. At the end of the book, Rowley’s girlfriend breaks up with him. Then Greg and Rowley go back to normal. I really like the book.

Greg Heffley is the main character. Greg is a very wimpy/ lonely kid. Greg is a likable kid because he is a pretty nice and funny kid. Greg is lonely because he only really one friend. Greg is also wimpy because he can not even carry all of his books home from school. He said “my body is just not built to carry that weight.” so he uses a roller bag now cause he does not have Rowley to carry his books. Also, this supports the trait of him being lonely Greg’s mom always says “family is forever friends are not.” pg#1. Greg does not have all lot of really close friends and he always feels sad because he lost Rowley to some girl. But Greg’s mom knew how sad he was and told him. “No matter how nice you treat some people, they will turn there back on you the second they get the chance.” Pg#88. After Greg’s mom said that he learned to be grateful for what you have. He also learned you should try to have more than one friend. So if one friend ditches you  have another friend to hang out with. The Theme of the book is Greg is having some really hard luck with school and friends. My second understanding of the theme is that no matter how hard life is at that time treat everybody nice and things will get better for you.

I can make a connection with my life last year was pretty difficult when my grades dropped and I was having a hard time getting them back up. But I learned that you just have to keep trying your best. When you try your best good things come out of it. Like beating the school record for the cross country!! The book Diary of a wimpy kid Hard Luck is part of a big 10 book series. This series is a new york times best seller. The author Jeff Kinney has other huge hit series are to that are similar to this series. I would recommend this book to boys ages 8-13. I would rate this book 5 stars. The book really grabs your attention and pulls you in.
